The Revival of Woodturning 2008 Initiative

The idea is to promote revitalising the perception of wood turning in 2008. Woodturning appears to have become somewhat stale over the years and for a newcomer it doesn't look very exciting, but it can be and not just for the new turner, it can and is exciting for all of us. These pieces pictured left are called the Tate's as in Tate Modern, they are what they call thermed and are so easy a new turner could make them the day he gets his lathe out of the box using just the Spindle Roughing gouge; they are then removed from the lathe and finished off by hand with sandpaper.
This is how to inject new life into turning, how many turners have run out of ideas and don't spend anything like the time they used to in the workshop? Well here's a golden opportunity to go back down there, blow the cobwebs away and start again, remember back when you started how excited you were, boring everybody silly, talking non stop about your new hobby, well here's your chance to do it all over again, you can replace some of those earlier pieces you made with some new forms which hopefully you'll find as interesting to look at as they are to make, and more importantly, there easy to do.
