The Forest Monthly Project- July 2007

This message and entry to the July project was from Linda Carr in California. Read more about the Forest Monthly project>>.
When I arrived home I went to work right away on my piece for July and here it is. 26” tall. It was really a challenge figuring out how to put my idea to wood but when it all came together it pleased me greatly.

The flower was originally a pepperwood bowl that I cut up and carved. The flower center is mistletoe walnut which has those little punky holes in it from the mistletoe growing into the tree. The leaves are the bowl cut off scraps reshaped, The stalk is mulberry and started out as small scraps that I turned down then Jack cut them up at angles to make the twists and turns. That is also carved. The base is a piece of cherry that I had partially turned then decided it was junk. It just so happened to be perfect for this project although I did make it a bit smaller.

The title is “A Flower For Aline”.
